FAQ

Questions about our coins, how they’re made, sizing, shipping or caring for your piece? You’ll find the most common answers below. If you need anything else, feel free to contact us.

What is a pocket coin?

A pocket coin is a small object designed to be carried, kept or displayed. Unlike currency, Le Rocher Noir coins are created as meaningful objects, with each design representing an idea, story or reminder you can keep close.

What are Le Rocher Noir coins made from?

Our coins are made from solid brass. They are deeply sculpted, individually darkened and polished, giving the raised details contrast against the darker recessed areas.

Where are your pieces made?

Le Rocher Noir pieces are designed and finished by hand in Québec, Canada. Each design begins as an idea before being developed digitally, sculpted into solid brass and individually finished in our workshop.

Are the coins handmade?

Each piece combines digital design and precision machining with hands-on finishing. Every coin is individually sculpted into solid brass, darkened, polished and finished by hand.

Because of this process, subtle variations in patina, texture and finish are normal and make each piece slightly different.

What’s the difference between Classic, Plus and Limited?

Classic is 40 mm in diameter and starts from a 6 mm thick brass blank.

Plus is also 40 mm in diameter but starts from a thicker 8 mm brass blank, giving it a heavier, more substantial feel.

Limited is 50 mm in diameter, starts from an 8 mm brass blank and is individually numbered. Each Limited design is restricted to 25 pieces.

Final thickness may vary slightly due to the depth of the sculpted design.

What does “Limited to 25” mean?

Only 25 Limited pieces of that design will be produced. Each one is individually numbered as part of the edition.

Once all 25 have been made, that Limited edition will not be produced again.

Why does my coin look slightly different from the photos?

Every piece is individually finished by hand. Small differences in patina, polishing, tone and surface texture are a natural part of the process.

These variations are not defects. They’re part of what makes each piece unique.

Are these real coins or currency?

No. Le Rocher Noir pieces are collectible pocket coins and are not legal tender. They are designed as objects to carry, collect, display or give as meaningful gifts.

Are the coins heavy?

They’re surprisingly substantial for their size because they’re made from solid brass.

The Plus and Limited versions use thicker 8 mm brass blanks for an especially solid feel in the hand, while Classic uses a 6 mm blank.

Are your pieces made to order?

Yes. Each piece is individually sculpted and finished for your order rather than taken from a large inventory of mass-produced products.

Please allow 3 to 5 business days for production before your order ships.

Do you offer personalized engraving?

Where personalization is available, you’ll see the option directly on the product page. Personalized pieces are made specifically for you and may require additional production time.

Is a Le Rocher Noir coin a good gift?

Yes. Many of our designs are created around themes such as remembrance, perseverance, faith, heritage, philosophy and personal reflection.

They can make meaningful gifts for birthdays, Father’s Day, anniversaries, milestones or simply for someone who appreciates unusual objects with a story behind them.

How should I care for my brass coin?

Brass naturally changes over time as it is handled and exposed to the environment. This developing patina is part of the character of the material.

To preserve the existing finish, keep the piece dry and avoid harsh cleaners or abrasive products. A soft cloth can be used to gently wipe the surface.

Will the brass change colour over time?

Yes. Brass is a living material and can gradually develop a natural patina from handling, moisture and exposure to air.

This is normal and can give the piece even more character as it ages.

Can I carry my coin every day?

Absolutely. They’re designed to be held and carried.

Keep in mind that carrying solid brass alongside keys, other coins or metal objects can eventually create scratches and wear. For many owners, those marks simply become part of the object’s story.

Do you ship outside Canada?

Yes. International shipping is available to select countries, with available shipping options and costs shown during checkout.

International customers may also be responsible for applicable customs duties, taxes or import fees charged by their country.

How long will shipping take?

Delivery times depend on your destination and the shipping service selected at checkout.

Remember that shipping time is in addition to the 3 to 5 business days required to make and finish your piece.

Can I return or exchange my order?

Because each piece is made to order, returns and exchanges are generally not accepted.

If your order arrives damaged, defective or incorrect, please contact us and we’ll make it right.

Personalized or custom-made pieces cannot be returned or exchanged once production has begun.

My order is a gift. Will pricing be included in the package?

We don’t include product pricing inside the package, making it easy to send a Le Rocher Noir piece directly as a gift.
