We spend so much of our lives judging what we can see. How someone looks, what they own, what they have accomplished, how others perceive them. But remove all of that and there is something strangely equal about us.
Beneath the Flesh came from that idea. This solid brass challenge coin is a reminder to look a little deeper, both at others and at ourselves. In the end, character matters more than the surface we leave behind.
THE IDEA BEHIND BENEATH THE FLESH
This skull challenge coin was made to be held, carried and revisited. Keep it as a pocket piece, display it as a small work of brass art, or simply let it serve as a reminder to look beyond what is immediately visible.
A HANDMADE BRASS COIN
Each coin begins as a thick blank of solid brass and is individually engraved in deep sculpted relief. The raised surfaces are polished while the recessed areas are darkened by hand, creating the contrast and depth that define each piece.
The reverse features engraved blackletter typography, keeping the message as much a part of the object as the artwork itself.
Every coin is engraved, darkened, polished and finished by hand in Québec, Canada. Small variations in tone and finish are part of the process, making each piece slightly different from the next.

MORE THAN AN OBJECT

The surface is temporary. What lies beneath matters more.
