Everything eventually returns to where it began.
Dust to Dust is built around the idea of Memento Mori, the reminder that our time is limited. The things we own, the things we worry about, our successes and failures, and eventually ourselves, all pass.
That idea does not have to be depressing. In many ways, it says the opposite. When time is limited, what we choose to do with it becomes more important.
THE IDEA BEHIND DUST TO DUST
The skull represents mortality while the rose and skeletal hand place life, beauty and death beside one another. Nothing lasts forever, which is exactly what gives the present its value.
This Memento Mori coin is meant as a reminder not to waste too much energy on things that ultimately mean very little, and to give more attention to the people, experiences and decisions that do.
A HANDMADE BRASS COIN
Each coin begins as a thick blank of solid brass and is individually engraved in deep sculpted relief. The raised surfaces are polished while the recessed areas are darkened by hand, creating the contrast and depth that define each piece.
The reverse features engraved blackletter typography, keeping the message as much a part of the object as the artwork itself.
Every coin is engraved, darkened, polished and finished by hand in Québec, Canada. Small variations in tone and finish are part of the process, making each piece slightly different from the next.

MORE THAN AN OBJECT
Dust to Dust was made to be held, carried and revisited. Keep it as a pocket piece, display it as a small work of brass art, or carry it as a physical Memento Mori, a reminder that time is limited and should be spent deliberately.
Nothing lasts forever. That is why today matters.
