I’ve always liked the symbolism of the koi. Its strength does not come from having an easy path, but from continuing to swim when the current is working against it.
陰陽 | YIN YANG came from that idea. Two koi move around one another in an endless circle, representing opposing forces that are different, yet connected. Movement and stillness. Strength and patience. Resistance and acceptance.
THE IDEA BEHIND YIN YANG
Yin and Yang is not simply about opposites. It is about balance and the idea that opposing forces can exist together and even depend on one another.
The two koi were designed around that relationship. Each moves in the opposite direction while remaining part of the same composition. For me, they represent the moments when moving forward feels difficult. Resistance does not always mean you are heading the wrong way. Sometimes it is simply part of the journey.
A HANDMADE BRASS COIN
Each coin begins as a thick blank of solid brass and is individually engraved in deep sculpted relief. The raised surfaces are polished while the recessed areas are darkened by hand, creating the contrast and depth that define each piece.
Every coin is engraved, darkened, polished and finished by hand in Québec, Canada. Small variations in tone and finish are part of the process, making each piece slightly different from the next.
